Campaign Story
πΎHigh Five for Animal Welfare – Kalahari Heart
Kalahari Heart focuses mainly on the equine in and around Deben but we do help all animals. We have many different aspects to our organization this includes outreaches where we do general wellness checks, hand out food and deworm dogs and cats as well as equines or other farm animals. Our mission is to better the lives of animals and educate people about their care. πΎπ€π
Description of Cause
Sterilisations – the number of puppies dying due to negligence is very high, We cannot continue to support the community on our vet acc, owners need to take responsibility , we are doing this through education and steri days.. The biggest cause Kalahari Heart has addressed is the plight of the working donkeys in our area, we hope to inspire other organisations to do the same.
Activities and Programs
- The Harness project – replacing conveyor and wire harnesses with donated repurposed tack.
- The Halter exchange – Homemade halters are exchanged for donated halters.
- The Microchip project – Buying a chip machine & chips, chipping all equines.
- We are also educating children about animal welfare by going to schools and children come to us.
Our Achievements
- Equines – A number of donkeys have been saved from dire circumstances and rehomed.
- Sterilisations – A very successful steri – day where 81 dogs / cats were sterilised.
- Our biggest achievement is working with the rural community, helping, guiding, teaching not judging.
- We are the only welfare in the area that takes in equines and any other farm animal.
The Support We Need
Our biggest need is feed and medicines, we are one of the few animal welfares that use natural medications. We are a small dirt road town, funds are not gained from our town and we cater to mostly people who cannot afford basic care for their animals, my wish is to buy the 5 in 1 vaccinations as parvo is the biggest cause of death in puppies here and tetanus vaccinations for the equines.
Photos and Media
Included is our biggest success stories of equines that were relinquished by the owners to us and have remained as permanent residents at KH. Their wounds were horrific but today they are healthy and happy.Β Our Facebook page showcases who we are and what we do best.
Transparency and Accountability
We have a open policy and every donation gets mentioned on our media platforms, Bank statements are available on request.Β Our bookkeeper is Yolandi Ellis – +27 74 369 3182 who is helping us get all our tax things in order.Β As soon as everything is done, we will apply for a tax certificate.
